CSCFM History

CSCFM was founded in the fall of 1969 by a group of businessmen from North Carolina, USA. The original name of the organization was Christians Sharing Christ, named after an earlier series of unplanned revival type meetings which had become known by that same name. The ministry was founded under the specific idea of reaching the poor people of San Jose, Costa Rica, through a marketplace ministry under the direction of Brother Charles Moore.  CSC collected support for the work and sent it directly for this mission work.

Brother Charles began the work in Costa Rica by renting a small dirt parking lot and then eventually renting the second floor of a building in the downtown marketplace.  Evangelistic meetings were held during the day and followed by film presentations at night. People coming to the market from all over Costa Rica and surrounding countries had the opportunity to hear AND see God’s plan of Salvation presented.  Further, a number of local Costa Ricans who had accepted Jesus were trained and became full-time native missionaries to their homeland country.

Charles Moore Testimony

Charles Moore is the founder of CSC and worked as the General Director for twelve years.  Mr. Moore's testimony of how God called him and his family to live a victorious Christian life is truly inspiring and can be read in detail on Mr. Moore's website:  (Moorereport.com) .   A brief summary is as follows.

Upon graduating from college, Mr. Moore served in the Army and subsequently became a very successful businessman.  In spite of incredible business success, he was missing a sense of fulfillment. Charles and his wife Judy were then led to leave their business interests and move to Ft Worth, Texas to enroll in seminary.  After seminary, Mr. Moore accepted the position of business manager for Latin America missions and began language training in San Jose, Costa Rica.  Charles was already fluent in Spanish and as a result had time to begin evangelistic preaching in the red-light district near his home.  Ultimately, Mr. Moore resigned before taking the business manager position because God was calling him to evangelize in this area.  CSC was born as a result of the call on Mr. Charles' life and those who knew him and believed that God wanted them to support this effort.

The work in Costa Rica was not easy, sleeping on the floor for more than two months. The Moores lived for seven weeks without a stove or a refrigerator, however, they were very happy and at peace because they were in the center of God's will for their lives.

During their eight years in Costa Rica, Charles was arrested and thrown into jail for preaching on the streets of the capital city.  They rented the 2nd floor of a building in the middle of that city's red light district and called it the "EL APOSENTO ALTO" or "The Upper Room". Within a block and a half radius of their "Upper Room", there were 113 officially sanctioned houses of prostitution with an average of 100 licensed prostitutes at each house.  The "sanctioned" prostitutues ages ranges from 8 to 14. The area was densely populated with more than 30,000 people walked in front of the building each day. The ministry of Christians Sharing Christ to the worlds "down and outs" began in this evangelistic center.

In the first two years of their ministry in Costa Rica, they saw more than 5,000 professions of faith. When they left Costa Rica 7 years later for El Salvador there were less than 20 houses of prostitution in the same area. Then Costa Rican President, Jose Figueres and his wife recognized the Moores' ministry to their country by inviting them to a special dinner at their home.

God burdened the Moores’ hearts for the people in all the market places of the world. Subsequently they moved to San Salvador, El Salvador and began an identical work in that countries marketplace. The Moores worked with CSC for 12 years.

Other History

Mr. Hector Slaughter was the next President and Administrator of CSC for 20 years until 1999.  At that time, Mr. Patrick Calhoun was chosen as President and the ministry continues today under the leadership of Patrick and a board a directors located in Louisiana, USA.

Christians Sharing Christ Film Ministries has now been in existence for almost 40 years and still maintains the basic premise of the founding of CSC -- winning souls through supporting missionaries.  CSCFM still directly supports local native missionaries and has evolved into providing film equipment because of the great history of success of film ministry.

CSCFM now supports missionaries and provides equipment on 4 continents, North (Central) America, South America, Asia and Africa.  Christians Sharing Christ’s work in the rural and market places of the world has been used of the Lord to see more than 2,000,000 professions of faith in Jesus Christ.
